My Back Roads
ABC Open has launched the project My Back Roads in partnership with ABC TV’s series, Back Roads 2.
The idea is to capture what’s happening in your patch with a video or a photo.
Get involved! Take a photo of an artist involved in the Desert Equinox Air Art Prize and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #mybackroads.
Or capture a short video and upload it to the ABC Open website. Videos can include short time-lapses captured on your phone, interviews to camera, or longer documentaries edited on your desktop.
Broken Hill Schools Expo 2015
In May 2015 the Broken Hill Art Exchange participated in the Schools Expo at Broken Hill High School. There were 375 students in attendance from Years 7 to 10 and approximately 15 participating agencies. Thank you to the Broken Hill Art Exchange Youth Opportunities representatives Nuri Malik and Shannon Munro as well as visiting artist Shane Vink (painting) and Susan Thomas BHAE (artist and arts administrator). Shannon demonstrated stencil art and jewellery making while Nuri displayed the art of hat making to the students.
Festival Of Respect 2014
"The power of conversation & collaboration in a rural community", a festival coordinated by the Far West Community Legal Service with Warra-Warra Legal Service and supported by the Broken Hill Art Exchange, Broken Hill Domestic Violence Committee, 2BH Radio, Hill FM radio and Mackensie Business Centre. We acknowledge the 50 agencies and businesses and communities in the Far West NSW that provided financial and in-kind support to the Festival of Respect.
2010 Youth Mural Project CDAT
High School students designed murals for the drink safe campaign ‘Be part of it not out of it’. The workshop was presented by Susan Thomas, Broken Hill Art Exchange, as a member of the Broken Hill Community Drug Action Team in 2010. The Broken Hill Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) aimed to reduce the local impact of substance misuse in the Broken Hill community.
2007 I.C. Media Lab
In 2007 the Broken Hill Art Exchange Inc. in partnership with dLux Media Arts, Sydney established an Information and Communications (I.C.) Media Lab in Studio 6. The I.C. Media Lab brings leading Australian and international visiting artists and art organisations to the city to share skills and work collaboratively with local artists and organisations. Some of the artists who have stayed at the lab include Allan Giddy, Angelica Mesiti, Shaun Gladwell, Alice Angus, Proboscis (UK) as well as Jamaican artist mervin Jarman, the founder of the Container and iStreetLab, Community and Youth Engagement projects.
