Artist in residence/ park caretaker: Milparinka 2026
MilParinka
The Milparinka Heritage and Tourism Association is offering short term accommodation in a fully furnished cottage located above Milparinka’s Evelyn Creek In exchange for free accommodation.
The participating artist or caretaker would be asked to undertake some daily cleaning of the ablutions and potentially the accommodation units and camp kitchen as well as watering the garden spaces. Some dates on offer are early in the tourist season allowing time to be spent on art activities or exploring the Corner Country..or just relaxing. Later in the year would be busier but still allow plenty of time to pursue activities of interest.
The cottage was constructed in 2022 and includes a fully equipped kitchen and living space, bathroom/laundry and queen bedroom overlooking Evelyn Creek. It is fully air-conditioned. Satellite television is connected along with Starlink which will be upgraded soon.
About Milparinka.
Milparinka is a heritage town located in the far north west of New South Wales, 300 km north of Broken Hill and 40 km south of Tibooburra. It is surrounded by rugged hills and creeks, and vast open gibber landscapes that hold a special place in Aboriginal history as well as exploration, pastoralism and mining.
The attraction of Milparinka is, in part, its remoteness and its dark night skies but also the well- established museum spaces that are open to visitors from March through to November. More information is available on our website https://visitcornercountry.com.au/corner-country-towns/milparinka/
Milparinka also embraces local art with works by Clark Barrett, Jodi Daly, Shane Bates, Harrie Fasher, Brian Campbell, Bonnie Quayle, Gritta Walker, Geoff De Main, John Gerritsen and Ian Marr and our association has been involved in the placement of other works across the region.
The dates that are currently available are broken into two weekly blocks in order to coordinate with volunteers on duty in the museum spaces. Multiple consecutive blocks may be taken.
